Winter Cold

The days grow colder

The night somewhat longer

As I nestle under my covers

Waiting for my body to recover

From the bitter cold outside

The safety of where I lie.

My bed is my fortress

My blanket the moat

The covers are the high walls

And the pillow my hope

My teddy sits in the corner

Watching as any solider should

Waiting for an intruder

That may steal if he could.

My eyes grow heavy

And slowly begin to close

I’m whisked off to a deep sleep

Forgetting the dreadful cold

Surrounding me is safety

The bed in which I’m lay

Is protecting me again

As it does everyday.
